Native American Dancers

This week we were lucky enough to enjoy a visit from some Native American Dancers. They amazed us with their beautiful dress, captivating stories and fantastic dance moves. We love to learn about other cultures and traditions and they were very inspiring! Some of us got to join in with the dancing. Rihari was chosen from Room 8 as he was keen to take part and he had a lot of fun. We shared some of our culture and tradition with the dancers by welcoming them with a powhiri and performing our school Pepeha for them at the end of the show.

Keeping Ourselves Safe (KOS)

Today, Room 8 launched into our KOS learning. We discussed how all the children are UNIQUE and that there are many special things about everyone that make them so special and unique. We discussed how families are unique. We talked about the importance of knowing where we live, and knowing our adults phone number - in case we are ever lost or unsafe. The children have a homework sheet to complete this week (with your help) that will help them to learn these important details. Please do this with the children and return to school.

Constable Viv came to our class this afternoon and we talked about what to do when we are lost, or scared. She had some fun videos to help with different scenario examples and we discussed safe areas, and safe people to ask for help if in need. We then discussed 'feelings' and looked at different pictures that show our feelings ie, happy, sad, angry. Constable Viv then taught us the correct names of our body parts.

Please follow up at home with the children and share in the discussions :) It was lovely having Constable Viv in our class!

Constable Viv's Visit

Yesterday, Const. Viv came to visit our year 1 team. She showed us her special uniform, and all the things she needs to carry to keep herself and others' safe. Const. Viv spends her time keeping people safe, and over the next few weeks we will be learning all about keeping safe. Our class was especially lucky as Viv came to spend some time with us in our class, and we were allowed to have a look at her police car! We know Const. Viv has a very important job and we can't wait to learn more about keeping safe in many situations.

The Olympics 2016!

In Room 8 we are sharing ideas and finding out about the Olympics. On Thursday we made an Olympic flag and talked about what it means. The Year 2 classes were having their Olympics at school, so we decided to go and see the events. Here we are waving our flags to support the Year 2 athletes. It was a beautiful day for it!
