Principal's Award Week 4

Every two weeks on a Monday (on even weeks this term) we have a whole school assembly in the hall and each class chooses a child to receive the Principal's Award presented by Mrs Woon. This week our Principal Award goes to Samuel Rolston. Wow Sam! You are making Room 8 AMAZING with your truly amazing learning muscles, Ka rawe!

Numicon Maths

Our Year One team has been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to introduce the Numicon Maths teaching programme to our students. We are currently undergoing professional development in teaching this programme after research has shown the benefits to our students. We have begun to explore this very child centred, visual and tactile approach to teaching maths. Here we are in Room 8 exploring our new Numicon resources and having fun working with our buddies; ordering, matching, counting, sorting, classifying and discussing our learning. Ka Rawe Room 8! You did a fantastic job in our Maths session.

Cricket Skills every Wednesday Term 1

Room 8 are really enjoying learning the cricket skills Brent is teaching us every Wednesday afternoon this term. Last week we practised our under arm throwing, two hand catching and over arm throwing. Today we learned about the four parts of a cricket bat; the face is the flat side, the back is the curved side, the toe is the bottom of the bat and the handle. We practised how to stand and hold the bat before we hit the ball with the face of the bat. Room 8 did an amazing job of learning these skills and have been practising them during our morning fitness time so we can follow up on and make the most of all the skills Brent teaches us on Wednesdays.
